Noney bike rally disseminates anti-child marriage campaign

Senapati district administration, in collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), organised an awareness and sensitisation programme for district level officers and church leaders on Tuesday at the DC Conference Hall, Senapati.
The event was held under the Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat (BVMB) initiative.
During the programme, deputy commissioner Ma-moni Doley highlighted the adverse impact of child marriage on health and education.
She commended the role of church leaders in ensuring that no cases of child marriage have been reported in the district thus far.
Emphasising the importance of collective responsibility, she called upon church leaders and DLOs to actively support the implementation of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act within their respective spheres of influence.

Rang David Kung, additional deputy commissioner, underscored the influential role of the church, second only to educational institutions, in disseminating information and educating the community.
He encouraged church leaders to continue raising awareness about the legal and social consequences of child marriage among their congregations.
Lily Rangnamei from the DCPU, Senapati, provided an overview of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, and urged religious leaders to exercise vigilance when conducting marriage ceremonies.
She appealed for their cooperation in striving to make Senapati a district free from child marriage.
As part of the campaign, the deputy commissioner released posters promoting the message against child marriage, which were distributed to all attendees.
The event was attended by Lophro, AC to DC, Senapati; officials from the DCPU and DLOs; church pastors, and youth leaders.
In Noney district, a motorcycle bike rally spreading awareness on the campaign against child marriage was taken out on Tuesday.
The bike rally was flagged off from Longmai Bazar traffic point by Noney SP Namsadai Peter Pamei in the presence of District Child Protection Unit, Noney protection officer Kakhuran Palmei and other officials.
Speaking at the event, protection officer Kakhuran explained that child marriage is punishable under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006 .
He appealed to the community leaders and CSOs leaders to aid in spread awareness on laws prohibiting child marriage so that early marriage is checked effectively in the society.
