Ukhrul, October 11 2025:
The Tangkhul community is preparing to welcome Thuingaleng Muivah, Ato Kilonser of the NSCN/GPRN, who is set to return to his native village, Somdal, after more than five decades.
Community leaders from the four Tangkhul regions - Ato (North), Aze (South), Zingsho (East), andZingtun (West) - are getting ready to roll out the red carpet for the visit.
Chairman of Zingsho Longphang, AS Nathan, representing the eastern region, said that people across the area are united in prayer for Th Muivah's arrival, while Sophayo Siro, speaking on behalf of Aze Longphang in the south, said that local communities, women's groups, youth, and Church members are preparing to welcome the NSCN leader.
Born in 1934 at Somdal village in Ukhrul district, Thuingaleng Muivah is among the most prominent figures of the Naga political movement and has played a key role in decades of Indo-Naga peace negotiations.
In anticipation of his visit, preparations are underway across the district, with village authorities, youth and student organisations, Churches, and civil bodies coordinating reception programmes.
Community prayer services, cultural rehearsals, and public gatherings are being held to mark the occasion.
At Somdal, local residents are organising cultural performances and community feasts to commemorate what many describe as a significant homecoming for one of the most respected leaders from the region.
