AITUC Thanga Committee extends support

The All India Trade Union Congress, (AITUC) Thanga Committee has announced its full support for the nationwide general strike to be held on July 9 .
The strike has been called by the AITUC to raise concerns over various labour-related issues and antiworker policies.
According to a release issued by the AITUC, Manipur State Committee, the decision to join the strike was made during a convention held on July 7 at Thanga Lawai Awang Leikai Community Hall.
The meeting was attended by M Mangi Singh, convenor of the Bishnupur District Committee AITUC, AITUC Manipur State general secretary L Sotinkumar, Secretary Kh Brojendro, Secretary Th Suresh Singh, Executive member I Tomba as the presidium members.
The gathering resolved to support the AITUC's call for a general strike by staging a sit-in protest at Moirang Khunou on July 9, demanding the withdrawal of anti-labour government policies and raising various worker grievances.
Meanwhile, in connection with the strike, the Silchar Division Insurance Employee Association, Imphal held a preparatory meeting on July 7 at its office.
The meeting was attended by AITUC Manipur, general secretary L Sotinkumar and advisor I Tomba as presidium members.
Discussions at the meeting focused on the challenges faced by the Government Insurance Company employees.
The association also decided to hold a sit-in protest at the Imphal branch office as part of the July 9 strike.
Further expressing solidarity, the Manipur Baber's Association and the labourers of the Sekmai Gas Bottling Plant have also declared their support for the July 9 general stnke.
The July 9 strike is expected to see wide participation from various workers' organizations and employee unions across the State.
