Birchandra Central Library inaugurated

Khongnangthaba University (KTU) yesterday inaugurated the Birchandra Central Library, a modem knowledge hub dedicated to the memory of late Khaidem Birchandra, father of the founding chairman of Khongnangthaba Foundation.
As per a release issued by KTU, the library opens with 5,000 books, 100-seat capacity reading hall, and a full-fledged e-library operated through SOUL (Software for University Libraries) with INFLIBNET connectivity, bringing professional cataloguing and digital discovery to research scholars and students.
Launching the library, Prof N Joykumar Singh, Vice Chancellor, KTU, called it a major step forward for Khongnangthaba University.
"With a strong physical collection and SOUL-enabled e-resources, we are building an academic hub that supports serious scholarship and nurtures a culture of reading and research", he added.
He also thanked generous contributors whose support has strengthened the library's interdisciplinary holdings.
"We are grateful to Prof M Iboton Singh, retired Dean, School of Social Sciences, Manipur University, for a significant donation of books and theses, and Dr Ashangbam Vivekananda Singh, managing director, Padma Diagnostic Centre, RIMS Road, for medical and diagnostic books and study materials.
Their contributions will directly benefit our students and faculty", he asserted.
Designed as the intellectual heart of the campus at Khurai Konsam Leikai, Imphal East, the Birchandra Central Library blends print depth with digital reach.
With today's inauguration, Khongnangthaba University reaffirmed its commitment to advancing learning, research, and public-spirited scholarship in Manipur and beyond.
