NIA Court sends one to judicial custody

Imphal, August 06 2025:
The Court of Special Judge NIA, Bishnupur has sent Moirangthem Biramani Meitei (46), Chief of Army of KCP (Nongdrenkhomba) to 15 days judicial custody till August 20 .
Moirangthem Biramani Meitei alias Kangleipurel of Phubala was arrested by a combined team of security forces on July 31 from a floating hut at Phubala Patton, Bishnupur district.
Biramani was earlier arrested on multiple occasions, and he had been staying at his home after surrendering in 2013 .
After the clash between Meiteis and Kukis erupted in May 2023, he joined proscribed outfit KCP (Nongdrenkhomba) and was elevated to the position of Army Chief, police said.
In the NIA Court today, the prosecutor submitted that the police investigation has revealed that Biramani is allegedly involved in carrying out extortion activities and has been concealing the real identities of his associates, their hideouts and locations where arms and ammunition of the outfit are kept concealed.
The prosecutor then prayed the Court to remand the accused to judicial custody for further investigation.
After hearing the submissions of the prosecutor, the Court ordered the remand of the accused to judicial custody for a period of 15 days till August 20 .
