In his speech, the Chief Minister expressed concern over the present state of Government schools.
He said that although the State Government has given thrust to development of education sector and enhance the condition of Government schools, parents and guardians have no faith in these schools.
Parents still prefer to send their wards to private schools, the Chief Minister said.
Instead of blaming the Government, parents and guardians must also try to find out why Government schools are still unable to enhance its condition although teachers enjoy handsome salary, the Chief Minister said.
He said that every parent wants to give good education to their children and the State would see advancement in all the fields if the students concentrate on studies and teachers put in efforts to produce good students.
The Chief Minister also stressed on the need to have a healthy competition between the teachers of Government and private schools.
Maintaining that many good aided schools have degraded after these were changed into full-fledged Government schools, the Chief Minister said that as such the Government is reluctant to upgrade aided schools to Government schools.
Stating that from Primary school level to college level, the condition is similar, O Obobi said that there is need for a serious contemplation among the officials, teachers, experts, guardians and public to improve the condition of Government schools and colleges.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam while speaking at the function stressed on the need for developing children's moral apart from giving formal education.
He said that every field should have mentors and people used to give high respect to teachers in the past.
However, it seems that people and students do not have such respect for teachers now, Gaikhangam said.
Stating that elders, teachers and experts were consulted to resolve any issue in the past, the Deputy Chief Minister said that youth are taken into confidence for every issue now and it is not a sign of development.
