Manipur crisis : IDPs suspend stir

The agitation launched by IDPs demanding resettlement at their native villages/homes has been suspended following the Government's action towards this end.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, Churachandpur Meitei United Committee (CMUC) convenor Moirangthem Baleshor pointed that tens of thousands of people have been living in relief camps under wretched conditions for over two years on account of the violent crisis which erupted on May 3, 2023 .
Demanding resettlement at their native villages/ homes and satisfactory redressal of several other grievances, the IDPs have been staging protest demonstrations since July 3, he said.
The CMUC have also talked on these issues several times with the Governor and the Chief Secretary.
"Now, there are indications of the Government translating its assurances into action and we are thankful to the Governor and the Chief Secretary for this", Baleshor said.
The CMUC also welcomes the Government's initiative of stationing an SDO at Bishnupur DC to oversee the work of regenerating documents of IDPs from Churachandpur, he said.
The committee is also grateful to the Government for its declaration that all IDPs would be either resettled by December or accommodated in prefabricated houses, he added.
