Van Mahotsav Week: Tree plantation drive held at Bishnupur, Thoubal

A district-level tree plantation programme was held today at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya(JNV), Bishnupur, as part of the ongoing week-long celebration of the 76th Van Mahotsav.
The event was organised by the Bishnupur Forest Division with the objective of promoting afforestation and contributing to the nationwide mission of enhancing green cover through extensive tree planting activities.
Deputy Commissioner Bishnupur, Pooja Elangbam, graced the occasion as chief guest.
In her address, she emphasized the importance of afforestation and environmental conservation.
"Taking care of our forests and environment is of great importance for the sustainability of our environment Inculcating this value in students and youth is crucial, and schools are the best places to begin," she said.
She also encouraged the habit of planting trees to commemorate personal community milestones.
"Anyone who plants a tree is thinking about the future.
It is a selfless act that will benefit generations to come.
And it is equally important to nurture the saplings after planting them", Pooja added.
Pooja Elangbam also urged the students to develop a sense of social responsibility and to live consciously, keeping in mind their duties to society.
She wished them success in all their future endeavours.
The tree plantation was carried out in and around the school premises by the DC along with the Divisional Forest Officer Yaikhom Romabai, ADM Bishnupur Toijam Opendro, Additional SP Bishnupur, Principal of JNV Bishnupur, District Level Officer DLOs, teachers, students and other officials.
It may be noted that the Bishnupur Forest Division has joined the nationwide celebration of Van Mahotsav, which is being held from July 1 to 7 .
During this week-long initiative, a total of 22,000 saplings are targeted to be planted across the district.
Tree plantation drive at Louyai Lambi Park, Kakching
As part of the Van Mahotsav 2025 celebration, a tree plantation drive was carried out today at Louyai Lambi Park, Wairi Thingel, Kakching.
The event was held under the supervision of Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Dr Jeeceelee Leishangthem and aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and green practices.
During the event, Range Forest Officer, Kakching Huidrom Sundar Singh handed over two tree guards made out of used plastic bottles to ADAM Kakching secretary Surjit Kshetrimayum, who is also the convenor of Management Committee, Louyai Lambi Park Kakching.
Speaking in this connection, Surjit urged the people to avoid the use of single-use plastics and to shun the habit of discarding used plastic items on roads and dramage systems.
