Lourembam Indrakumar (42), an internally displaced person (IDP) from Moreh, is currently undergoing treatment at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) after suffering an electric shock.
This incident adds to the ongoing struggle faced by his family, who were forced to flee their home at Moreh Ward no 5, Premnagar after Kuki militants and their associates torched his house amid the crisis in Manipur that began on May 3, 2023 .
It is reported that Indrakumar suffered an electric shock on June 25 after accidentally touching a high-tension (HT) wire while working on a house construction site at Canchipur.
The electric shock resulted in bums to his chest, right leg, and left arm.
Indrakumar, an inmate of a relief camp set up at Prabhavati College, Mayang Imphal, is a married man with two children.
He is now undergoing treatment at B Extra Cabin of RIMS's Surgery Ward.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, Indrakumar said that he works as a driver and also does welding work.
He recounted that his work as a driver on the Moreh line, transporting passengers and water tankers, provided for his family's needs before the crisis.
Sharing his plight, Indrakumar said that he, his wife, and their two children have been living in a relief camp at Mayang Imphal since the crisis erupted on May 3, 2023.To make ends meet after leaving Moreh, he has been doing welding work.
Sharing his distress, Indrakumar said that the electric shock he sustained during welding work at Canchipur on June 25 has left him unable to work, and he is worried about his family.
Saying that his wife earns some income by weaving clothes on a loom at the relief camp, but it is insufficient to meet their family's needs, he expressed concern about the mounting medical expenses for his treatment which add to his family's financial woes.
He expressed desire for the people to extend some sort of financial help to his family, given the unfortunate circumstances he has been through.
