Imphal, May 03 2026:
Introduction of Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) has slashed the number of LPG consumers in the State by almost half.
The Government of India introduced DAC in LPG refill distribution on March 9 this year.
Following the introduction of this new rule of using DAC in LPG refill distribution, the number of LPG consumers has gone down from around six lakh to around three lakh.
With a large number of consumers denied LPG refills, there have been instances of some consumers confronting LPG distributors.
As the number of LPG consumers have declined by almost half, there is abundant stock of LPG at Sekmai bottling plant, sources said.
Introduction of DAC has denied LPG refills to around 3 lakh consumers.
As a result, there have been instances of some consumers trying to take LPG refills forcibly from those going on LPG home delivery, said the sources.
Saying that introduction of DAC has put the spotlight on phone numbers which were given at the time of LPG connection, the sources said that LPG refill booking cannot be done if the phone number given at the time of LPG connection is not working.
If the phone number is not working, the consumer will not receive any (booking) reference number and such consumers will not be able to lodge any complaint with distributors for not giving them LPG refills, said the sources.
The sources said that lack of awareness regarding the new rule may be the primary reason for the drastic reduction in the number of LPG consumers.
There is an urgent need to create awareness among LPG consumers regarding the new rule.
There have been reports of mobile phone numbers given at the time of LPG connection in Manipur being picked up from Tripura and other States.
According to the sources, a meeting is scheduled tomorrow between IOCL officials and LPG distributors on the unfolding situation.
