Imphal, August 31 2025:
The Democratic People's Front (DPF) has accused the State Government of engaging in diversionary tactics by conducting widespread eviction drives instead of tackling the pressing issues of free movement along the National Highways and ensuring the safe return of IDPs to their homes.
Speaking to media persons, Dr Rajivkumar Narengbam, DPF president informed that the party has submitted a memorandum to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla today to resolve the Manipur conflict.
In the memorandum, DPF has made demands to allow free movement along the NHs, launch a probe into PUCL's controversial report by constituting an Independent Judicial Commission and give IDPs their due financial assistance, among others, he said.
Saying that NHs are the responsibility of the Central Government, he questioned the meaning behind the Government's inability to facilitate free movement along the NHs during the press meet held at the party's office in Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal.
Due to this impediment on road transport, many poor households face financial hardships when family members have to go out of station as the only option left for them is air travel.
On another note, he said that eviction drives to dismantle unauthorized structures are a positive move but interjected that it is ill-timed.
He requested the drives to be conducted after pertinent State issues have been put to rest.
In addition, he said that IDPs should not be given less than the sum of Rs 1 lakh already announced as assistance.
Condemning the PUCL report, the DPF president urged the Government to boycott it, calling it biased.
