Ex-MLAs condole

A condolence meeting was held today at 2 pm at the office of the Ex-MLAs' Welfare Association, Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretariat, Imphal to pay respect to (late) BD Behring who died at 2.30 pm on the June 27, 2025 at Sir Gangaram Hospital, New Delhi.
Born at Thorcham village, Chakpikarong, Chandel district, Manipur on the 18th February, 1951, he was a student activist and was associated with a number of student organisations at the State and National levels.
He had was an MA (Political Science).
He was a great educationist and reformist to develop the downtrodden society and remained the Chairman of the Managing Committee of the United College, Chandel and Chakpikarong Hr Sec School, said a press release issued by the Manipur Ex-MLA Welfare Association.
He worked ceaselessly for communal harmony and peaceful coexistence among the conflict communities.
He was elected as an MLA from Chandel A/C as JD candidate in 1990.He was also elected as a Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) in March the same year but he resigned.
Behring was again elected as a Member of the 8th Manipur Legislative Assembly in 2002 on BJP ticket and was also the president of the Manipur Ex MLAs' Welfare Association and his contributions towards the welfare of the former members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly need special mention, it said.
BD Behring is survived by his wife Dr Ch Samurembi Chanu, four daughters and a son, it said.
The Manipur Ex-MLA Welfare Association has also extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and all who were touched by his leadership and service.
May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire generations to come, it said.
A sum of Rs 50,000 has also been sanctioned from the fund of the association and it will be handed over to his wife Dr Ch Samurembi Chanu, it added.
