Imphal, December 31 2025:
Condemning the recent brutal killing of Anjel Chakma and the physical assault of his younger brother Michael Chakma, the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has urged the Indian Government to include the North Eastern States in the National curriculum and syllabus as a means to prevent such unfortunate incidents.
In a press release, AMSU demanded the Uttarakhand Government to award stringent punishment to the culprits involved in the killing and assault while highlighting the need to demonstrate that everyone is equal before the law.
AMSU said that the two brothers were subjected to derogatory abuses and physical assault owing to their "different looks" while they were on a grocery run.
Such incidents involving people from the North East have happened in different parts of the country in the past.
But the killing of Anjel Chakma is proof that some people still harbour prejudices against North East Indians, said AMSU .
The student body has assured to mount pressure on the Government to seek justice for Anjel Chakma.
AMSU has also extended condolences to the bereaved family.
