Imphal, January 14 2019:
Extrajudicial Execution Victims Families Association Manipur (EEVFAM) has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, who is also in charge of Home, demanding suspension of the police personnel indicted in the CBI charge sheet during the pending period of the trials.
The memo explained that the threat and intimidation to the victims and witnesses of the extrajudicial executions, despite a series of reports made to the DGP, is continuing unabated.
It conveyed that on January 13 last year, one Sukham Purnimabati Devi filed a complaint to the DGP stating that agents of Inspector Pebam John enticed, intimidated and harassed her for cooperating with the prosecution in connection with the extra judicial execution of RK Laksana and added that Sukham Purnimabati is one of the prime witnesses of the case.
It then recalled that on October 17 last year, EEVFAM secretary submitted a written report in connection to the threat and intimidation of Yengkhom Ibomcha, Jiribam district coordinator of EEVFAM, by one Inspector S Ibotombi Singh of Manipur Police (named an accused in the FIR) and who has already been charge sheeted.
However and unfortunately, the complainants have not been intimated of any tangible action taken up from the side of the police authority till date, it added.
EEVFAM then expressed deep concern that in such vitiated environment, it will be impossible for the witnesses to freely give their statement and cooperate with the prosecution by going to the CBI designated Courts.
A such, EEVFAM appealed to the Chief Minister to suspend the police officers indicted by the CBI from their respective duties during the pending period of the trials so that the witnesses can freely cooperate with the prosecution and so that the ongoing trial can proceed in a free and fair manner.
