Imphal, August 07 2011:
Jawaharlal nehru (JN) Hospital, Imphal has fervently appealed to volunteers of Sadar Hills District Demand Committee to facilitate safe passage of trucks carrying filled as well as empty oxygen cylinders through the National Highway-39 on humanitarian ground and in greater interest of patient care.
A statement issued by the Hospital's Medical Superintendent Dr Khomdon Lisam said as a consequence of the economic blockade and ongoing general strike in demand for upgrading Sadar Hills to a full-fledged revenue district, JN Hospital is facing acute shortage of oxygen and other medicinal gases resulting in cancellation of routine operations.

Conveying that Den Agency, Uripok which supplies oxygen to all major hospitals, including private medical centres, has intimated that oxygen-loaded trucks coming to Imphal as well as Guwahati-bound are stranded along the Highway due to the ongoing agitation, the Superintendent said if the situation does not improve within 2-3 days there will be complete exhaustion of oxygen stock in Manipur leading to closure of operation theatres, intensive care units, intensive coronary care units, etc leading to drastic consequences.
