Bishnupur, April 29 2024:
The Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has urged the Education Minister to address the crucial need of providing adequate staff and infrastructure to Ngaikhong High School located in Bishnupur district.
DESAM highlighted that Ngaikhong High School is the lone school in Ngaikhong village which provides educational facilities from pre-primary to Class X and has been enrolled among the 120 schools for School Fagathansi Mission Phase II .
However, the school is in a pitiable state due to shortage of teachers and staff and adequate infrastructure hindering the efficient functioning of the school, the student body highlighted.
Speaking to media persons during a press meet held at Ngaikhong High School today, Education secretary DESAM Headquarters Oinam Romesh said that if due attention is not given now, the future of the school and students will be at stake.

The press meet was held after conducting an inspection visit of the schools in Ngaikhong village in Oinam Assembly Constituency in Bishnupur district today.
The inspection of the schools was carried out jointly by DESAM and All Clubs Co-Ordinating Committee, Ngaikhong Khullen.
It may be noted that the educational system in Ngaikhong village continues to be in a sorry state despite the presence of four schools namely Ngaikhong Model High School (Govt), Ngaikhong Junior High School (Govt), Ngaikhong Awang LP School (Aided) and Little Star English School (Private) .
Out of these four schools, only Ngaikhong Model High School has educational facilities from pre-primary to Class X, Romesh highlighted.
However due to vacant posts of Headmaster, Arts Graduate teacher, Home Science teacher, Hindi primary teacher, Pre-primary teacher and non teaching staff like Grade IV and LDC, the school is not able to function efficiently, he said.
Speaking about the incomplete construction of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Abhiyan Vidyalaya which is supposed to be a residential hostel for both boys and girls, he informed that students are compelled to stay in rented accommodation which is really unfortunate.
In this regard, he urged the local MLA and Education Minister to expedite the construction of the hostel for the convenience of the students so that they can enhance their academic career.
It is worth noting that many displaced students from Churachandpur, Tronglaobi and surrounding villages affected by the communal conflict which erupted on May 3 last year are also studying at Ngaikhong High School.
Romesh went on to state that the students are facing a lot of inconveniences due to lack of infrastructure such as benches, desks and the pitiable condition of the school building.
Above all, there is no proper fencing for the boundary of the school, he said.
Considering the plights of the students, Romesh appealed to all concerned to take up immediate steps to improve the condition of the school at the earliest for the well-being of the students and the Ngaikhong village at large.
In connection with the above, All Clubs Co-ordinating Committee, Ngaikhong Khullen General Coordinator T Surjit sought the attention of the relevant authorities to initiate measures to promote proper educational atmosphere in the village thereby creating an enhanced academic environment in the school by addressing the issue of shortage of teachers and staff and lack of infrastructure.
