Shija Hospitals, PAM observe ORS Week 2026 to promote timely oral rehydration therapy

Imphal, July 28 2026: Shija Hospitals & Research Institute Pvt Ltd in collaboration with the Paediatric Association of Manipur (PAM) observed ORS Week Celebration 2026 on Tuesday at the SJ Auditorium, Langol, under the theme "ORS First: Every Child.

Every Diarrhoea, Every Time".

The campaign, with the slogan "Every Sip Saves a Life: ORS for Every Child, Every Time", focused on the importance of timely use of Oral Rehydration Solution to prevent childhood deaths due to diarrhoea.

The programme was attended by Dr Palin Khundongbam, CMD, Shija Hospitals; Dr Namganglung Golmei, Secretary, PAM; Dr L Basanta Singh, Secretary, East Zone Academy of Pediatrics; and Dr Donney Khundongbam, CEO, Shija Hospitals.

Welcoming the gathering, Dr Sachikumar Kh, Consultant Paediatrician, Shija Hospitals, described ORS as a simple, affordable and life-saving intervention.

Dr Kaikho Lajeo presented an overview of diarrhoeal diseases, dehydration assessment and Oral Rehydration Therapy.

The nursing team also demonstrated correct home preparation of ORS as per WHO guidelines.

Dr Golmei noted diarrhoea remains a leading cause of mortality among children under five in India.

Dr Basanta Singh urged empathy in patient care, while Dr Palin Khundongbam called for wider community awareness.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr Thoudam Bijyalaxmi.
