Imphal, May 28 2025:
The initiative being taken up by the Bazar Development Committee (BDC) to give Imphal City a fresh look has started garnering support from the people, with shop gates and shutters being painted white at MG Avenue, Thangal Keithel.
Shopkeepers at MG Avenue welcomed the BDC's initiative to boost the city's visual appeal, hoping it will be extended to other areas of Khwairamband Keithel.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, BDC member Yogesh Jain said that their goal is to promote truth, unity, and peace by uniformly painting the front parts of shops in Imphal city white.

He said that most shops at MG Avenue, near Mahatma Gandhi's statue, have already been painted white.
Saying that shops at Dharmashala, Alu Gulli, and other areas have also begun painting their facades white in support of the initiative, he said that their goal is to present Imphal City as a 'White City', similar to Rajasthan's Pink City.
Yogesh added that the initiative has garnered overwhelming support, with about 99 per cent of the people backing it.
The project may be initiated by BDC, but it's the shopkeepers who are bringing it to life, he said.
He further said the initiative will be expanded to Paona Keithel, Khwairamband Keithel, and Thangal Keithel initially, followed by areas like Nagamapal, Uripok, Thangmeiband, and other parts of Imphal, adding that they will consult with local clubs in the process.
Continuing that they have also set up three public urinals with separate sections for males and females at Thangal Keithel, specifically at MG Avenue, Dharmashala, and Gurudwara, for the convenience of the public, Yogesh Jain added that they plan to establish more public toilets in the future.
He went on to state that they had recently cleaned the drains at MG Avenue and Kalibari, appealing to the shopkeepers to keep the drains in front of their shops clean.
People already know that clogged drains can cause flooding, he said.
Nandeibam Bino, a shopkeeper at Alu Gulli, said that everyone should support the BDC's initiative as it will promote unity and make the city more aesthetically beautiful.
