Imphal, May 26 2026:
The State Congress party has raised the crisis plaguing Manipur during a meeting convened by All India Congress Committee (AICC) in New Delhi yesterday.
Organised by the Scheduled Caste department of AICC, the meeting was chaired by Leader of Opposition Party (LoP) Rahul Gandhi.
At the meeting, Ayanbam Oken, chairman of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (Scheduled Caste Department), stated that tensions between members of the Naga and Kuki communities have escalated, with incidents of hostagetaking and killings occurring even as the conflict between the Meitei and Kuki communities remains unresolved.
Alleging that the BJP Government has treated the people of Manipur in a stepmotherly manner, he urged AICC leaders to raise the issue with the Centre and take steps to restore peace in the State.
He also said that the people of Manipur are dissatisfied with the Government's response to the ongoing crisis in the State and have begun questioning whether they are regarded as fellow Indians.
The Government launched Operation Sindoor in response to the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, but has allowed all forms of cross border terrorism to continue in Manipur, he said.
Stating that the crisis in Manipur could have been resolved long ago had the Government made sincere efforts, Oken cautioned that the situation could escalate further if it is allowed to persist.
The meeting, held as part of the Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan, Jai Congress campaign, was attended by party leaders from Manipur, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Tripura, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha, West Bengal, Telangana and Punjab, among other States.
