Thoubal/Jiribam, October 24 2025:
Ningol Chakkouba turned deeply emotional as internally displaced women celebrated one of Manipur's most cherished festivals, honouring family bonds, far from their homes.
At Thoubal, the Leisangthem Awang Leikai Youth Center (LALYC) hosted a feast for displaced women from Moreh, a border town that endured one of the deadliest attacks on Meetei families since the crisis began on May 3, 2023 on the second day of lunar month of Hiyangei at Leisangthem Kellimakhong Community Hall yesterday.
This gesture was as heartfelt as it was meaningful, fostering a sense of community and resilience amidst adversity.

Though not blood relatives, the displaced women, children, and elders were warmly welcomed as family by the LALYC .
The organizer presented simple gifts and sought blessings from the women in return, mirroring the heartfelt bonds of a true family.
These women have been enduring all sorts of hardship in relief camps for over 29 months.
Th Romibala, an inmate of the Wangjing Kodompokpi relief camp.
expressed her gratitude to the LALYC for remembering and inviting them to the Ningol Chakkouba festival, a gesture that brought warmth and connection to their world shattered by displacement.
Visibly touched by the warm hospitality, she affectionately referred to the LALYC volunteers as her brothers.
LALYC president Takhellambam Biren, on the other hand, stated that they hosted the Ningol Chakkouba feast for the displaced "sisters and daughters" to express solidarity and reassure them of support during their challenging times.
The Jiribam district administration also organized a Ningol Chakkouba feast for displaced women residing in various relief camps in the district.
Over 300 displaced women, along with senior civil and police officials, participated in the celebration held at Bidyanagar Sports Complex.
The Ningols were honoured with gifts, upholding the cherished tradition of Ningol Chakkouba.
