Bomb planted at Vishal Mega Mart

Thoubal, May 21 2026: A hand grenade with a note "KCP (PWG) Next IED Blasts" was found planted at the Vishal Mega Mart located at Thoubal this morning.

The store is located just opposite to the Thoubal police station along National Highway 102, and was opened on April 30 recently.

Police recovered the hand grenade and defused it later.

This incident came amid Thoubal Keithel vendors opposing the opening of the Vishal Mega Mart in close proximity to the market.

The vendors have been urging the Mart to shift farther from the Thoubal Keithel.

The bomb incident meanwhile triggered a protest.

Members of the public and Vishal Mega Mart employees held a sit-in today urging the Thoubal Keithel vendors and groups concerned to allow the Mart to operate in the area.

An employee said the Vishal Mega Mart has given jobs to unemployed youths.

While the Mart is convenient for the public, it now employs more than 60 youths from the Thoubal area.
