CM bats for palliative care institution in State

Imphal, November 19 2015:
The State Government is giving top priority to health sector in the State, said CM O Ibobi while inaugurating the two-day Pallicon 2015 at City Convention Centre, Palace Compound today evening.
Pallicon 2015, an initiative to promote palliative care, is being organised by the Palliative Care Society, Imphal sector.
The event was attended by doctors, nurses, medical students amongst others.
The inaugural function was attended by Chief Minister O Ibobi as the chief guest.
President of Palliative Care Society, Dr Palin attended the inaugural session as the president while Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam and Technical adviser, WHO collaborative Centre, Institute of Palliative Medicine Kerala Dr Suresh Kumar were the guests of honour.
Speaking at the occasion O Ibobi said that there are a large number of people in the world who are in need of palliative care.
He further said that the State is looking forward to establish an institution for providing palliative care.
He also said that the State Government is investing 3 percent of GDP in the health sector against the National average of 1.02 percent investment in health sector.
He also said that holding such conference in the State will go a long way in solving medical problems faced by the people.
Dy CM Gaikhangam lauded the initiative of Palliative Society, Imphal in organising such National level events in the State with faculty members from different parts of world coming to share their knowledge and expertise in palliative care.
Palliative care is an approach that endeavours to improve the quality of life of patients and their families, he said.
Gaikhangam also exuded confidence that the conference will provide a platform to make people aware of palliative care and its importance in the society.
He also expressed gratitude to those who are coming from other parts of the world and from different parts of the country for sharing their expertise on the subject.
Dr Suresh Kumar said that the conference is a major event taken up to take forward the entire North East region regarding palliative care.
He also said that the State Government is also providing various forms of support towards the society.
