Imphal, April 17 2026:
In view of the prolonged negligence of the dilapidated Porompat DC Road by the State Government, the Nongpok Pana Apunba Lup (Nongpal) is set to initiate a road blockade along this stretch if the authorities concerned fail to start renovation work by April 22 .
A memorandum to this effect was submitted to Imphal East Deputy Commissioner Dr Nivedita Lairenlakpam by Nongpal convenor Laishram Vivekananda after a joint meeting of its members.
Nongpal is an apex body of 26 local clubs and meira paibi organisations located along the Porompat DC Road, which passes between Khurai AC and Kshetrigao AC .

According to the memo, Nongpal will launch the road blockade from April 23 with the support of the local public if the relevant depart-ment/authority fails to undertake road repair work by April 22 .
Previously, Nongpal held talks with the Imphal East DC over this issue and received assurance that the concerned officials will be called and renovation work will begin shortly.
However, even after receiving a specific date for the repair work, the authorities have failed to act on their assurances.
Commenting on the poor state of the road stretch, Nongpal said the Porompat DC Road is littered with potholes, dusty during winter and slushy during monsoon.
Accidents are also frequently caused by the unlevelled mounds in the spots where the ditches dug for the sewerage project have been filled.
Nongpal also called for the repair of street lamps along this road section.
Ksh Romesh, general secretary, Oriental Youth Organisation (OYO) also highlighted the importance of the Porompat DC Road, stating that many offices of State departments, including the headquarters of Imphal East district - the Imphal East DC Complex, is located along this stretch.
He urged the concerned officials of the Government to pay a visit and assess the condition of the road.
Attention was also drawn to the ditch dug up in front of the Imphal East DC Office and at the turning leading to the Imphal East SP Office for the PHED sewerage project.
According to Romesh, it has been enclosed with a bamboo fence and reportedly abandoned for close to 2 months.
No labourers are seen working on the project after the ditch was dug up, said Romesh.
Calling upon the State Government to repair the road stretch, he said OYO will extend its support to Nongpal's road blockade if the authorities fail to undertake repair work by April 22 .
