One AR man, one UG killed in another Cdl clash

Imphal, November 15 2017: A suspected underground militant and a personnel of 4 Assam Rifles were killed in an encounter, early today morning, at Chamal village near the Indo-Myanmar border, under Chakpikarong police station, Chandel district.

According to reliable information, personnel of 4 Assam Rifles, Chamal Post Delta Company, acting on specific information about the presence of heavily armed suspected UG militants near Chamal village, launched a search operation to neutralise the area.

During the search operation, an encounter took place between the suspected UG militants and the security personnel near Chamal village at around 4.30 am.

One suspected underground militant was reportedly killed on the spot during the encounter while two personnel of 4 AR sustained injuries.

The injured security personnel were airlifted to Leimakhong Military hospital in serious condition and at around noon, one of the jawans succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased jawan has been identified as Rifleman Jai Prakash Oran (33) from Jharkhand.

He suffered bullet injuries on his chest.

The other jawan has been identified as Havildar Gome Pun.

He sustained bullet injuries on his left hand.

Soon after the incident, personnel of different units of Assam Rifles located nearby the incident site rushed to the spot and conducted a massive search operation in the surrounding areas.

AR personnel reportedly recovered an AK 47 rifle along with three magazines and three IEDs from the incident site.

The body of the deceased AR personnel has been deposited at JNIMS morgue for post mortem while the body of the suspected UG militant which was picked up by a team of Chakpikarong police, is yet to reach JNIMS morgue.

On the other hand, a massive search operation is still under way at Chandel DHQ for the third consecutive day after an IED attack upon personnel of 18 Assam Rifle killed two security personnel and left six others injured.

10 teams of Thoubal commando, led by SDPO Yairipok, Amaijit, is stationed at Chandel district to assist the AR personnel in the search operation.
