The All Manipur VDF Welfare Association has urged the Government to address the long-standing grievances faced by Village Defence Force (VDF) personnel.
Speaking at a press conference held today at the Manipur Press Club, association president Sh Shanjit highlighted various concerns regarding approval status, honorarium payments, uniform sanctions, and service extensions.
He welcomed the Government's recent announcement regarding the recruitment of 10,000 personnel for VDF, IRB, and teaching positions, noting the current unemployment situation in Manipur.
"Manipur currently has 10,050 VDF personnel.
Of these, 2,850 have received approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs, while 7,200 remain unapproved", said Shanta while urging the Government to issue necessary "Convey Letters" for these 7,200 personnel if further recruitment proceeds.
He demanded that new recruits receive an honorarium from the outset, considering the hardships faced by existing VDF members.
Pointing out that funds exceeding Rs 1.60 crore sanctioned for VDF uniforms have not been utilized, he urged the relevant department and the Government to ensure these funds are used before the current financial year ends to prevent their lapse.
The Association reiterated its long-standing demand to extend the VDF service period from one year to three years.
