Lok Adalat settles 404 cases

Imphal, September 12 2026: A total of 404 cases were resolved today with a total settlement amount of Rs 5,20,51,973 during the third National Lok Adalat for the year 2026 held today across all nine judicial districts and the High Court of Manipur.

The Lok Adalat was organised by the Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA), in association with the High Court Legal Services Committee (HCLSC) and District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) .

Justice M Sundar, Chief Justice, High Court of Manipur cum patron-in-chief, MASLSA accompanied by Justice A Guneshwar Sharma, Judge, High Court of Manipur cum chairman, HCLSC inspected the proceedings of Lok Adalat at the Lamphel Court Complex and interacted with presiding officers, members of the Lok Adalat benches, advocates, litigants, and media persons.

During the inspection at Lamphel Court Complex, the Chief Justice handed over Lok Adalat Awards to some of the parties and congratulated them for successfully resolving their disputes through the platform of Lok Adalat.

Addressing media persons, the Chief Justice highlighted the significance of Lok Adalat as an effective mechanism for bringing finality to disputes through mutual agreement, without resorting to prolonged adjudication.

He noted that today's National Lok Adalat is the third National Lok Adalat of the calendar year, following the earlier sittings held in March and May 2026 .

The Chief Justice particularly appreciated the settlement of money-related disputes, observing that bank officials were attending the Lok Adalat with mandates to offer substantial concessions, including waiver of more than 50% of the claim and, in appropriate cases, waiver of the entire interest.

Appealing to litigants across Manipur, the Chief Justice urged them to make use of the opportunity provided by National Lok Adalat and participate in large numbers.

He announced that the fourth National Lok Adalat of 2026 will be held on December 12, 2026, and appealed to litigants to take note of the date and arrange their engagements accordingly so that more pending disputes could be brought to a final and amicable resolution.

Justice A Bimol Singh, executive chairman, MASLSA also inspected the proceedings of Lok Adalat at the Thoubal Court Complex.

He also handed over Lok Adalat Awards to some of the parties.

A total of 449 cases were taken up in today's National Lok Adalat for the whole State of Manipur, out of which 404 cases were successfully resolved with a total settlement amount of Rs.5,20,51,973 .

The cases taken up during today's National Lok Adalat included both pre-litigation matters and civil as well as criminal cases pending before various Courts, such as original suits, money suits, bank recovery cases, matrimonial disputes, MACT cases, and other civil matters.
