RIMS launches RCI-CRE programme

The Bachelor in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology (BASLP) unit under the Department of ENT, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, launched a two-day RCI-accredited Continuing Rehabilitation Education (CRE) Programme on "Dysphagia Updates in Speech-Language Pathology Services (SLPS)" today at Banting Hall, RIMS .
As per a release issued by RIMS, the programme was inaugurated by Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, Imphal, in the presence of Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent; Prof Laishram Rajesh Singh, Dean (Academics); Prof Sudhiranjan Th, Head of Otorhinolaryngology, RIMS; Prof H Priyosakhi Devi, Head of Otorhinolaryngology, SAHS, Langol; and Dr Indranil Chatterjee, Lecturer & In-Charge, Audiology & Speech Language Pathology, AYJNISHD (D), Kolkata.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Sunil Kumar assured that efforts would be made to address BASLP's faculty and infrastructure gaps, including appointing regular staff and securing a separate building, highlighting RIMS as one of the few institutes sustaining such a programme.
Stressing on dysphagia's growing relevance, he underscored the CRE's role in bridging research & clinical practice and urged active participation to enhance collaboration and patient care.
During the programme, resource persons delivered insightful talks on topics including "Anatomy & Physiology of Swallowing", "Neurological Dysphagia and Neurodegulutology in Critical Care", "Neurological Dysphagia: Recent Standards of Assessment and Management", "Pediatric Swallowing Disorders: Trends in SLP Practice", and "Swallowing Disorders: Evidence-Based Practice" .
Faculty members, practitioners, and BASLP students are actively participating, in line with the Rehabilitation Council of India's mandate for ongoing professional development.
The ENT Department reaffirmed its commitment to hosting similar programmes to strengthen rehabilitation services in the region.
In a separate event, Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma inaugurated the Casualty Triage Area at the Casualty Block, RIMS, in the presence of Prof N Sanjib Singh, Heads of Departments, faculty members, nursing officials, and other staff of RIMS, Imphal.
