Pherzawl district takes steps to combat substance abuse

Pherzawl, July 05 2025:
The District Administration of Pherzawl, in collaboration with the District Social Welfare Office convened a review meeting on Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) at DC Office Conference Hall on Friday.
Joel G Haokip, ADC Pherzawl, chaired the meeting attended by Lunzamung Tungnung, Additional Superintendent of Police, Lalthanzam, SDO Vangai, officials from the District Legal Services Authority and representatives of Lenruol Development Agency.
ADC Joel Haokip reiterated the objectives of NMBA and reviewed previous activities under the campaign.
Members deliberated on the future action plan and agreed to organize a series of awareness activities including a public rally to highlight the harmful effects of substance abuse.
Later in the afternoon, ADC Joel Haokip presided over a separate meeting to discuss the implementation of Government of India's Cashless Treatment Scheme for Road Accident Victims 2025.Lunzamung Tungnung, Addl SP and District Nodal Officer for eDAR, briefed participants on the eligibility criteria, operational procedures and reporting requirements under the scheme.
The Addl SP informed that accident victims are entitled to financial assistance of up to Rs 1.5 lakh and free treatment for up to seven days in designated hospitals.
However, he cautioned that failure to report an accident to the police within 24 hours would render victims ineligible for benefits.
In cases where victims are initially taken to a non-designated hospital, they must be referred to an authorized facility after first aid to claim assistance, he stated.
ADC Joel Haokip stressed the need for close coordination among departments to ensure smooth implementation and save lives.
The meeting also approved the appointment of Lalsuong Gangte, Assistant Commissioner to Deputy Commissioner as the Grievance Redressal Officer for the district.
Officials from the Health Department, NHIDCL representatives, PWD officials and other key stakeholders attended the discussions.
