Doctors unwilling to go to Moreh: CM

Imphal, September 03 2026: Even as many cases of suspected Dengue and related deaths have been reported from Moreh, doctors aren't willing to go the border region due to the prevailing unrest in the State, said Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh in the Assembly session today.

The Chief Minister made this statement responding to queries raised by Khangabok AC MLA Okram Surjakumar.

The Chief Minister said the Government has received multiple reports of suspected Dengue cases and related deaths from Moreh.

Due to unavailability of testing facilities, the exact causes of the deaths and the disease have not been identified.

The unrest in Manipur has reduced manpower in the health sector.

Only one doctor from Churachandpur has agreed to go to Moreh, said the CM .

Shortage of specialised doctors was also felt during Late MLA Vungzagin Valte's admission in Churachandpur Hospital, the CM said.

To improve accessibility, the Government has launched 30 mobile medical units in the interiors of the hills.

A mobile unit includes a doctor, nurse, and first aid equipment and medicines, Khemchand said.

Further, the Government has also provided 33 ambulances, especially to expecting mothers, he added.

To improve the overall healthcare sector, Khemchand said the Government has given approval for development of five superspecialty hospitals having CT scan facilities, he said.

In addition, preparations for construction of a 60-bedded Mental Hospital at Lamphelpat have been completed, he said.

Further, the process for construction of a 60-bedded Child Hospital at Luwangshangbam has also been completed 87 percent, he added.

He also assured MLA Surjakumar to look into his request for converting District Hospital Thoubal into a medical college.
