Tension at Mao over alleged assault on youth leader

Apex Naga student bodies rushed to Mao gate after a youth leader was allegedly physically assaulted by AR personnel on Monday.
According to sources, the alleged assault occurred at around 3 pm, Monday at Kopoa, Phikomai village Mao.
The local youth leader, identified as Loli Kaihrii Philip, presently serving as Games & Sport secretary of KYC (Kahremai Youth Club), who is also a school bus driver by profession, was allegedly assaulted by personnel of the 16 Assam Rifles while he was assisting the flow of traffic on NH-2 .
The victim alleged uniform armed AR jawans held him by the neck and brutally kicked him multiple times, and hit him on the head with the butt of the gun.
The youth leader alleged that he was also verbally threatened by the Company Commander of Mao 16 AR outpost while firing 3 live rounds with an AK Rifle.
He alleged that the AR personnel collected the empty cases and fled the scene when the villagers intervened in protest against high handed conduct by the uniformed personnel.
Meanwhile, ANSAM and SDSA along with its federating unit leaders rushed to Mao gate where a crowd had gathered at the 16 AR outpost gate located near JNV Pfukhro, Mao.
They condemned the Ar for their high-handedness and demanded a dialogue with the AR officer.
The AR, however, refused to meet them.
The Mao Students' Union (MSU) has also vehemently condemned the alleged assault and urged authorities to book the officer at the earliest.
