Moirang, September 26 2023:
After days without gunfight, Kuki militants launched fresh attacks at Phougakchao Ikhai Awang Leikai and Phougak-chao Ikhai Mamang Leikai at around 6.35 pm today.
Armed Kuki volunteers and militants fired 30-40 rounds of bullets.
Some of the bullets hit a house in the area.
The fresh attack from their bunkers in the vicinity has created panic and fear among the locals in the nearby areas.
When VDF personnel tried to return fire, they were not allowed by the Kumaon Regiment, said a villager.
While the Central security forces had been claiming that Kuki bunkers had been removed from Heikon Cemetery and Torbung Sabal Leikai, the armed Kuki militants launched the fresh attack from the said bunkers, said the villager.
He urged the State Government to disarm the Kuki militants and their village volunteers and dismantle their bunkers to prevent further attack against the Meitei settlements in the area.
The villager further claimed that even though the barricade at Phougakchao Ikhai bazar bridge has been removed during daytime, a Casspir vehicle of the security forces is always blocking the road causing severe inconvenience to the public.
At night-time, the security forces are still using barricades to block the road, he claimed.
