Senapati, November 04 2016:
Breaking its silence over Sadar Hills issue, Kuki National Front (KNF) said that Sadar Hills district or any new district in Manipur is wholly for administrative convenience and the Nagas or NSCN-IM should not be insecure about it, reports our correspondent.
KNF, in a statement, said that it finds no reason why NSCN-IM should openly oppose the State Government's plan to make Sadar Hills as a full-fledged district.
"Of course, there are some Naga villages within Sadar Hills but Sadar Hills as whole is mainly dominated by the Kukis.
However, declaring Sadar Hills as a full-fledged district would not at all means that the Naga villages would be made to flee like what NSCN-IM had done during 1992-1993 incident", the statement said and added that KNF will continue to respect and regard the existence of the Nagas within Sadar Hills.
It also said that Nagas have the right to fight for their political aspiration however must not seek gain at the expense of other communities living in Manipur or the Kukis in particular.
It further said, "There are large pockets of Kuki ancestral land in Senapati, Tamenglong and Ukhrul as well which our forefathers defended against the British invasion during the Anglo-Kuki War(1917-1919) with Laijang now Tamenglong and Chassad in Ukhrul district being the headquarters.
"We expect the Government of Manipur to do what is just and constitutional without infringing upon the rights of the people living in Sadar Hills.
Sadar Hills needs to be declared as full-fledged district without further delay in the interest of peace and harmony", KNF said.
