Imphal, May 29 2025:
Following moderate but incessant rainfall since Wednesday, several localities of Imphal and greater Imphal areas have been flooded.
While water levels in rivers and streams across hill districts have risen steadily, authorities have not reported any major incidents or casualties as of the time of filing this report.
Roads, household plots and residential gates at several low-lying areas including Sagolband, Kakwa, Kwakeithel, Thangmeiband and Uripok have been flooded.
As per sources, the persistent downpour also triggered landslides in Ukhrul district headquarters, located approximately 84 kilometers northeast of Imphal.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier issued an alert predicting heavy rainfall and strong winds across various districts in the State.
Southern districts such as Chandel, Churachandpur, Pherzawl, and parts of Kakching and Thoubal are expected to receive intense showers in the coming days.
Like in the previous years, the road from Singjamei to Kakwa has also been flooded.
This particular road section gets flooded every time there is little rainfall.
The problem of flooding has become chronic in the area.
Several residential gates and courtyards located along Singjamei-Kakwa road have been flooded.
Some commuters told The Sangai Express that the particular road section gets flooded every time there is little rainfall.
Last year, even vehicles could not move on the road, they said.
The authorities concerned de-clogged the roadside drains last year.
During the de-clogging process, huge quantities of waste materials including plastic bottles were found blocking the drains, they said.
They asserted that people living along the particular road section and shopkeepers should not dispose of waste materials including plastic bottles into the drains.
Both the residents as well as commuters face severe inconveniences when the road gets flooded due to clogged drains, they continued.
They also expressed keen desire for the authorities concerned to take up necessary measures to address the problem of flooding along the Singjamei-Kakwa road which has become chronic before monsoon rain arrives in full force.
One auto-rickshaw driver plying on Canchipur-Khwairamband route said that floods and water-logging are not new problems between Kakwa and Singjamei.
Because of the moderate rainfall seen in the State since Wednesday, several portions of road from Kakwa to Singjamei starting from the Kakwa toll-tax booth have been flooded or water-logged, he said.
Frequent flooding/water-logging is one major cause for fast breakdown of the particular road section.
There are several instances of people getting totally or partially drenched by water splashed by vehicles moving on the flooded/ water-logged portions, he added.
