Key accused in Nambol ambush arrested

Imphal, September 24 2025: Security forces have arrested the prime accused of Nambul ambush which killed two 33 Assam Rifles personnel and injured some others from Kameng area under Lamsang police station in Imphal West today around 1 am.

According to a statement issued by Manipur Police Headquarters, the arrested person has been identified as Khomdram Ojit alias Keilal (47), s/o Late Kh Mani of Awang Leikinthabi Leikai in Imphal West and he is a bailed out member of People's Liberation Army (PLA) .

He was arrested on April 22, 2007 too.

The police stated that Ojit was directly involved in the ambush at Nambol Sabal Leikai on September 19 .

After firing at the 33 Assam Rifles personnel, Ojit, along with some other persons, fled towards Loktak side and hid their arms and ammunition at a discreet location, said police, adding that the arms and ammunition used in the ambush have been seized.

The seized items include one A4 rifle along with four magazines, one HK rifle along with two two magazines, two AK rifles along with five magazines, one INSAS rifle along with three magazines, three lathode shells, 170 rounds of AK ammunition, 216 rounds of M16 ammunition, one mobile handset, one wallet and one Aadhaar card.

The police, however, didn't disclose the identity listed in the Aadhaar card.

Certain leads regarding the ambush have been established on examining the arrested person and efforts are underway to arrest other culprits, the police added.
