Imphal, December 23 2025: Unusual traffic congestion on Tiddim Road at Sangaiprou hindered normal public commute, essential and emergency services today.

The cause--parents and guardians of students of Little Flower School parking their vehicles randomly on the road.

The results of examinations of lower Classes below X were declared today.

A great number of parents and guardians were at the school to check the results of their wards.

Parents and guardians "rushing to the school and parking the vehicles at the roadsides of the school" caused chaos.

Four rows of randomly and carelessly parked vehicles occupied a 3rd of the road on the side of the school.

The long columns of vehicles stretched at least 300-metre, causing traffic congestion and hindering all commuters, essential and emergency services.

Vehicles moving towards Imphal city were stuck in long and congested traffic.

Vehicles were also seen parked on the other side of the road which leads to Bishnupur, but there was no traffic.

The huge and unusual traffic lasted for hours from as early as 8 am to well past 12 pm.

No traffic police were seen taking measures to ease the traffic, and the school authority also didn't intervene with any measures to handle the situation.

A man in his 40s, stuck in the traffic, simply said the traffic was caused by "lack of traffic sense" .

Not all parents and guardians are to be blamed though, he said.

"They (parents/guardians) want to park their vehicles near the school so that they could avoid walking even for a short distance.

For their convenience, they are causing inconvenience to the public.

It is very selfish of them," said the man.

The man also blamed the school authority and the traffic police for not doing their job.

The traffic police should have intervened and taken measures, and the school could have organised man power to oversee the parking issue.

This is not the first time such a traffic congestion has occurred.

It occurs every year at places where schools are located near public roads, said the man.

One way to avoid such a situation is for the school to declare the results class-wise on separate days, he said.

Or the results could be announced online without causing nuisance to anyone, added the man.
