AR man hurt in bomb attack, gun fight reported

Imphal, May 12 2023: A personnel of 9 Assam Rifle A Company received minor injury in a bomb attack allegedly carried out by suspected Kuki militants at Kulbung village under Phubakchao Ikai police station, today at around 5 am .

According to reliable sources, the low intensity IED went off while a team of Assam Rifles was heading towards Kulbung village as a part of its area domination exercise.

The injured is a Nepali and he has been identified as Alehe.

The IED exploded when one of the Assam Rifles personnel pulled a wire lying on the ground.

The injured personnel has been taken to IGAR (South) for treatment.

He is out of danger, reportedly.

On the other hand, a gunfight reportedly took place at Chanung area under Sagolmang police station in imphal East today.

The gunfight reportedly took place at around 4 am when a group of armed people suspected to be Kuki militants started firing towards Chanung village, following which the villagers retaliated using license guns.

Soon after, a team of Imphal East commandos rushed to the spot and joined the gunfight which lasted for about an hour.

The gunfight ended after the militants left the area.

No one was injured in the exchange of fire.

Cattle herder shot on leg : A person was shot on his leg at Torbung Govindpur area in Bishnupur district today.

Torbung Govindpur is at present deserted, with the inhabitants having fled the place after the May 3 attack.

The injured person has been identified as Sibu Das (27), son of Nipen Das of Govindpur Bengali Colony Ward No 5, under Torbung Gram Panchayat.

He was herding cattle at around 7 am today when a bullet fired from the nearby deserted village hit him in his leg.

He was rushed to Kwakta Primary Health Centre and his condition, at the time of filing this report, was said to be critical.
