Sparking speculation about a possible Government formation, BJP's North East in-charge Sambit Patra held a series of meetings with BJP MLAs and met with ex-Chief Minister N Biren Singh today.
While the actual agenda of the meetings is not known, after his arrival here, Patra went to Churachandpur and met Thanlon MLA Vungzagin Valte and MLA LM Khaute.
After returning from Churachandpur, Patra met ex-Chief Minister N Biren Singh at his residence at Luwangsangbam.
He also visited the residence of Speaker Th Satyabrata, Yumnam Khemchand and invited BJP MLAs for a meeting at Imphal Hotel.
Late in the evening, Patra was in the Raj Bhavan meeting Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla.
He was meeting the Governor till the time of filing this report at 10 pm.
Significantly, Patra's visit to Manipur came days after 21 MLAs wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging the Central leadership to form a popular Government.
Marred by the violence since May 3, 2023, the State Assembly was put under suspended animation and President's Rule was imposed on February 13, just a days after N Biren Singh resigned as Chief Minister on February 9.Civil society organisations of both the Meitei and Kuki communities had just observed the completion of 2 years of the Manipur conflict on May 3.After reaching Imphal on a special flight at 8.30 am, Patra went to Churachandpur by air at around 9.55 am.
He visited Vungzagin Valte at his residence and also met with Churachandpur MLA LM Khaute.
Patra reportedly had a closed-door meeting with leaders of the Kuki Zo Council (KZC) and the Zomi Council (ZC) .
After returning to Imphal at around 1.40 pm, Patra went to the residence of ex-Chief Minister N Biren Singh at Luwangsangbam and the two held a closed door meeting for around 2 hours.
From the residence of N Biren Singh, Patra visited Speaker Th Satyabrata at his residence at Brahmapur Bheigyabati Leikai.
The two met for nearly 20 minutes.
Afterwards, Patra went to the residence of MLA Yumnam Khemchand at Yumnam Leikai and spent around 30 minutes.
In the meeting, sources said MLA Khemchand allegedly urged Patra for formation of a fresh Gov-emment, and for the Centre to install anyone but N Biren Singh as the Chief Minister.
After meeting Y Khemchand, Patra went to Imphal Hotel and invited BJP MLAs for a series of individual meetings.
While the details of the meetings have not been released and ascertained, sources said the MLAs urged Patra for formation of a fresh Government.
Sources said the MLAs also sought concrete actions to secure the National Highways and allow free movements of all across Manipur.
Patra met Lamlai AC MLA Kh Ibomcha, Patsoi MLA S Kunjakeswor, Langthabal AC MLA Karam Shyam, Kumbi AC MLA S Premchand, Khurai AC MLA L Susindro, Andro AC MLA Th Shyamkumar, Thongju AC MLA Th Biswajit.
Several other MLAs including those of the NPF, Awangbow Newmai, L Dikho, Leishiyo Keishing, Khashim Vashum also met Patra at Imphal Hotel.
Later in the evening, Patra went to the Raj Bhavan to meet Governor AK Bhalla.
Patra was in the Raj Bhavan till the time of filing this report at 10 pm .
