Imphal, September 04 2011:
Even as Chief Minister O Ibobi has left for Tokyo to attend an international seminar along with his wife and son, the Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee has decided to go on with their agitation with renewed intensity.
A decision to this effect was adopted during a closed door leaders' meet held at Kangpokpi today.
Attended by a number of prominent personalities drawn from Sadar Hills, the meeting stretched on for about three hours and after minutely discussing the issue, a press statement was handed over to the reporters who had gone to Kangpokpi to cover the event.
Asserting that there would be no going back on their agitation to demand district status for Sadar Hills, SHDDC in the statement said that the Committee on Re-organisation of Administration and Police District Boundaries is not acceptable to the people and hence is rejected.
"We will not accept new boundaries/reorganisation and police boundaries in place of existing boundaries of Sadar Hills administration," asserted SHDDC.

The agitation will continue with more intensity as the State Government continues to remain indifferent and adamant to the legitimate demand of Sadar Hills as well as in view of the deteriorating condition of the hunger strikers, said SHDDC.
The SHDDC also made it clear that they will not accept new "creation" of Sadar Hills as a separate district under different law/Act of the State legislature other than complete implementation of Manipur (Hill Areas) Autonomous District Council Act, 1971 and asserted that they will not compromise Autonomous Districthood of Sadar Hills with 'Revenue' district.
The demand to inaugurate Sadar Hills as a full fledged "autonomous district, only under Manipur (Hill Areas) Autnotnomous District Council Act, 1971, within a week" was also raised by the SHDDC.
Stating that the first phase of the agitation ended on August 31, as announced earlier, the SHDDC expressed regret for the inconveniences caused to the people of Manipur during the course of the first phase of the agitation.
The SHDDC however made it clear that the ongoing general strike and economic blockade along the National Highways will continue and extended its gratitude to all concerned for the successful implementation of the first phase of the agitation.
The earlier public meetings held at Gamgiphai, Saikul, Kangpokpi and Keithelmanbi had decided to go ahead with the agitation until and unless the demand for district status on Sadar Hills is granted.
