Imphal, January 24: Manipur Peace and Integrity (MAPI) Council has demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all its volunteers who have been arrested by the police in connection with the sit-in-protest demonstration held yesterday.

The volunteers of the MAPI Council have been reportedly put under police custody ahead of the proposed sit-in-protest to held from Singjamei Thongkhong to Lamlong Bazar yesterday as a precautionary measure to contain any untoward incident.

The protest demonstration was called in the backdrop of the peace talks between the NSCN (IM) and the Government of India which is threatening the existing territorial boundary of Manipur.

Addressing a press conference held at the office of the Konung Leikai Youth Development Club (KLYDC) at Palace Compound this afternoon, chairman of the Council Ch Birjit strongly condemned the high handedness of the State security personnel in arresting the volunteers with a view to thwart the peaceful sit-in-protest.

He asserted that the Council had organized the demonstration in solidarity with the All Political Parties delegation from Manipur who are pressing the Central leaders including the Prime Minister not to compromise with the territorial integrity of Manipur to appease the Naga rebel group.
