Imphal, January 17: Denouncing the ongoing peace talks between the Government of India and the Naga rebel group, NSCN ( I-M) at New Delhi, All Manipur Students' Association (AMSU) has categorically stated that it is not at all an attempt to find an amicable solution to the decades old vexed Naga problem, but a ploy to disunite and encourage blood shed among the people who have been existing in mutual harmony since time immemorial.

In a press statement, AMSU secretary general A Shyam Singh emphatically asserted that the so called peace talks is not at all a sincere attempt on the part of the Government of India and the leaders of the Naga rebel group to bring peace in the region.

But it is a sinister ploy to poison the minds of the people and disintegrate Manipur on communal line.

Therefore, AMSU strongly felt that every right thinking person should oppose it, the statement said.

Expressing surprise at the audacity of the NSCN (I-M) leaderships to submit themselves to Indian Government against whom they have been taking up arms demanding sovereignty for more than five decades, the statement maintained that the Naga rebel leaders have belittled the sacrifices made by the cadres of the outfit and brutality suffered by innocent men and women in the hands of the security personnel.

The hopes and aspirations of the cadres that a final and peaceful solution would be brought and the dream of a sovereign Nagaland realized one day is becoming dimmer by the day as the rebel leaders have abjectly surrendered to the Indian Government shamelessly, the statement accused, asserting that there is no reason why the living as well as the martyrs cadres and their bereaved kith and kins should not condemn the Naga rebel leaders for this act of treachery.

The AMSU statement demanded to know whether the cause for which the rebel group had been raging for the last five decades was only for carving out Ukhrul and Senapati district of Manipur and bring disunity among the people by spreading anti-Meitei feelings.

The statement also asked for the justification of the Naga-Kuki clash, killing of innocent people and extortion from public if the Naga outfit had really care for the spirit of brotherhood among the people at any point of time.

In the same vitriolic manner, the student body accused the Indian Government of insincerity in its approached to the peace talks.
