Tangkhul Naga Long refutes

Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) strongly refuted the claim of Dearson Chamroy, former chairman for identifying himself as the current chairman of Tangkhul Naga Ato Longphang (TNAL) in a recent talk show hosted by a local Youtube channel of Ukhrul that went viral in social media platforms.
The apex Tangkhul customary body, Tangkhul Naga Long hosted a press conference today at the TNL office located in Viewland in connection with the dissolution of TNAL executive body including the former chairman Dearson Chamroy for violation of TNL Riyan (Constitution) .
Addressing media persons, vice-president TNL, RS Jollyson elaborated that the Tangkhul customary bodies follow one common constitution that is TNL Riyan which governs all the important Tangkhul traditional institutions (village, longphang and Longrei) .

He highlighted that the former TNAL chairman Dearson Chamroy and his executive body violated and defied TNL Constitution in spite of the TNL Phungva invitation for a meeting to sort out the issues.
Meanwhile, Rakmingam TNL Phungva stated 50 representative members moved a motion for dissolution of the TNAL body led by Dearson Chamroy on September 7, 2023 .
Consequently, TNL Phungva invited the former chairman for a meeting twice however it was turned down.
Highlighting that denying the invitation of the apex customary body is a direct defiance of the TNL Constitution, he said that TNL have no option and cannot keep the TNAL office vacant anymore.
Therefore, the TNL office unanimously resolved to dissolve the existing TNAL on October 21, 2023 and to go ahead for a fresh election as per the TNL Riyan.
It was then, L Wungpam Shimray was declared as the new chairman of TNAL for a tenure of 2023-2027 .
The adopted resolution of the TNL executive body would be officially announced in the nearest TNL Assembly.
In view of the above, TNL now only recognizes L Wungpam Shimray as the chairman of the Tangkhul Naga Ato Long.
TNL further cautioned that any person or groups trying to mislead the public or create confusion would be considered as violation of the customary laws and will be dealt with severity.
