Abrogate SoO call with hunger strike rings out at DU, 9 held

Nine Manipuris who staged a protest demonstration at Delhi University demanding restoration of peace and harmony in Manipur have been arrested by Delhi Police.
Nine members of the Lamyanba Irabot Memorial Integrated Trust (LIMIT) staged a hunger strike in front of Arts Faculty, Delhi University with the help of Delhi Meetei Coordinating Committee (DMCC) from 1 pm today.
The hunger strike led by LIMIT president Malem Thongam was supported by many DMCC members.
However, a team of Delhi Police arrived at the scene at around 5 pm.
Saying that restrictions under Section 144, CrPC were in force in the area, the police team asked the agitators to leave the area.
As the agitators refused to leave the site, they were taken to Burari police station.
Even though Delhi Police set free all the nine agitators at Burari police station, Malem Thongam who is a transgender maintained that they would continue their agitation.
Together with five other members of LIMIT and some members of DMCC, Malem continued the hunger strike inside the police station.
They used placards which read as "Update NRC with respect to Manipur", "Abrogate SoO" and "Restore peace in Manipur" .
