Drugs worth Rs 9.5 Cr seized

Imphal, February 06 2024:
The Anti-Smuggling Unit, Customs Division, Imphal arrested two persons in two separate operations and seized brown sugar and Amphetamine tablets worth Rs 9.59 crore today.
The two arrested have been identified as Md Ayub Khan son of Md Tomba of Leihaokhong Mathak Leikai, under Lilong Tehsil and Md Akbar Khan son of Md Nasimuddin of Kiyamgei Makha Leikai.
They were arrested by the officers of the Anti-Smuggling Unit, Customs Division, Imphal in separate operations launched following specific inputs, said Rajivkumar Yengkhom, Deputy Commissioner, Customs Division, Imphal in a statement.
Md Ayub Khan was arrested with 1.732 kilograms of brown sugar worth Rs 8.66 crore in the international market.
The brown sugar is suspected to be of foreign origin.
Md Ayub Khan was arrested from a petrol pump near Hatta, Imphal.On the other hand, Md Akbar Khan was arrested from North AOC Imphal West along with 9,300 Amphetamine tablets of foreign origin worth Rs 93 lakh in the international market.
The two have been arrested under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, said the Customs Division, Imphal.
