Two held with drugs worth Rs 9.59 crore

Imphal, February 06 2024:
In an operation led by the officers of the Anti-Smuggling Unit, Customs Division, Imphal, two individuals were apprehended in separate incidents along with drugs worth Rs 9.59 crore in international market, on Tuesday.
According to the official statement released by the authorities, the arrests were made based on specific intelligence inputs.
The first individual identified as Md Akbar Khan (21) son of Md Nasimuddin of Kyamgei Makha Leikai, Kiyamgei Muslim, Imphal East, was intercepted at North AOC, Imphal West, around 12:20 pm on Tuesday.
Upon search, 9,300 Amphetamine tablets of foreign origin were seized from his possession.
The estimated value of the seized contraband in the international market is said to be Rs 93 lakh.
In a separate incident later in the day, Md Ayub Khan (30) son of Md Tomba of Lilong Leihaokhong Mathak Leikai was arrested from Hatta near a petrol pump around 4:30 pm.
Following a thorough search, authorities discovered 1.732 kilogram of suspected brown sugar of foreign origin from his possession.
The value of the seized substance in the international market is estimated to be Rs 8.66 crore.
Both individuals have been arrested and charged under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985.Further investigation is going on to identify and apprehend any additional perpetrators involved in the illicit drug trade.
