Body urges Rajnath to implement assurance

Thoubal, November 04 2023: Khangabok Joint Co-ordinating Committee (KJCC), an apex body of clubs and meira paibi groups of Khangabok, has urged Union defence minister Rajnath Singh to translate into action his statement published in the media that IAF will be used for destruction of poppy cultivation, at the earliest.

Addressing a press meet at its office on Saturday, Committee convener Khundrakpam Bishan Mangang appealed to the state to press the centre regarding the issue.

Lamenting that the present ethnic conflict is dragging on for six months with no signs of any solution, he also claimed that everyone knows that the prevailing crisis to divide Manipur has been funded by Kuki narco-terrorists using money generated from poppy cultivation.

Kh Bishan continued that if harvesting of poppy is allowed this year also then the situation will worsen even more.

Hence, the state government should strongly press upon the Union defence minister to destroy poppy plantations before harvesting, he added.

Kh Bishan further cautioned that if the assurance of Union defence minister is not implemented then the Committee along with other CSOs will launch intense agitations.
