Imphal, February 06 2024:
The Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL) is taking up steps to conduct drives to detect theft of electric power in Churachandpur and Kangpokpi district.
While most of the connections in Churachandpur district are prepaid metered, there may be some illegal usage of electricity in the district.
The drive in Churachandpur, however, will require strong security, said a source in the Power Department.
For security, police have been contacted and informed, added the source.
The source said the MSPDCL 11KV customer care service in the district is functioning smoothly, however, tax collection has declined a little.
Drives to detect illegal power usage in Kangpokpi will also start soon.
Only some large villages in Kangpokpi have prepaid metered connections.
There is suspicion about power theft in small villages where there are no prepaid metered connection facilities, said the source.
The source further stated that tax collection is extremely difficult in Ukhrul, Kamjong, Chandel and Noney districts.
Drives to detect illegal power usage are on at Tamenglong district.
Similar drives are being conducted across the valley, added the source.
