Imphal, June 18 2015 :
Womenfolk of Leitanpokpi, Imphal East district today staged a protest demonstration at their locality against the arrest and handing over of a former UG cadre to police by Assam Rifles with the allegation that a gun was recovered from his possession.
Nahakpam Maipaksana (25) of Leitanpokpi was dragged away from his bed by troops of 25 Assam Rifles posted at Saikul in the night of June 15 .
Maipaksana was once a cadre of RPF but he had retired to civilian years back.
He is now a married man.
The AR troops handed over Maipaksana to Sagolmang police station together with a pistol allegedly recovered from his possession.
Liklikhong Women Welfare Association secretary Salam Angoutombi decried the alleged deceitful conduct of AR troops.
Speaking to media persons by the sideline of the protest demonstration, Angoutombi maintained that Maipaksana has been wrongly indicted.
Both parents of Maipaksana had expired and he has been looking after his younger brother and sister apart from his own family.
Harassment of former UG cadres who have returned to the mainstream would bolster insurgency rather than quelling it, said the protestors.
