Imphal, November 06 2023:
Maintaining that the joint efforts of the government and civil society organisations are necessary to reach the desired goals, Co-ordinating Body of Khurai has appealed to Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) to withdraw its boycott of the state government and deliberate on means to end the present crisis.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Monday, Th Bon Khurai, spokesperson of the Co-ordinating Body, which is a conglomerate of 12 organisations, said that COCOMI should go along with the state government in its efforts to ensure resettlement of the displaced people in their respective homes as absence of cooperation from any stake holders may delay the process.
He also said that organisations which have been floated after the outbreak of ethnic violence in the state should consult COCOMI and other CSOs taking lead role in the present crisis, before taking up any works/activities for the welfare of the people.
The government of India should also hand over the Unified Command to the chief minister of Manipur, he proposed.
Bon further appealed to the CSOs to consult the people before taking up any activity for the welfare of the people as the government alone cannot effectively take up any welfare activities and the CSOs would find it an uphill task to attain the cherished objective without support of the government.
Therefore, COCOMI should discuss with the state government and come up with certain strategies to enable the public live in peace.
Bon also said that earlier the crisis in Manipur was perceived as a conflict between the Meiteis and Kukis.
However, since it is now known that the foreign hands are involved, the central government should take all responsibilities for doing the needful to end the crisis.
The state government and the public should also prevent the Kukis who are trying to take control of the land and disintegrate Manipur, he suggested.
