Myanmarese among seven arrested in Moreh

Imphal, November 04 2023:
A combined team of Central and state security forces arrested seven Kuld militants including a Myanmarese national along with arms, ammunition and other incriminating items during a joint operation on Saturday.
Police source said that the joint operation launched in the aftermath of the assassination of SDPO Ch Anand in Moreh on October 31 continued on Saturday.
The joint team comprising Tengnoupal district police, special commandos, Manipur police commandos, MR, IRB, BSF, 5th Assam Rifles and Manipur police women personnel carried out search operation in Zion Veng, Yangoupokpi, Seijang and Chavangphai areas and nearby villages from 8 am till noon.
During the operation, Netingam Lupho (55), son of Jamkhothang Lupho and Jangkhohao Zupho (45), son of Zunkhopao Zupho of Yangoupokpi; George Holkhoset Khongsai (20), son of Jacob Ngamjathang Khongsai and Jangkhomang Baite (21), son of Holkhozam Baite of Muannom Veng Ward No 7; Letgoulen Doungel (25), son of Letthang Doungel and Jangkhohao Haokip (34), son of late Jamkithang Haokip of Zion Veng (near hospital); and Nengimao son of Mangthang of Nampha-long, Myanmar were arrested.
The joint security team also seized 10 grams of leftover gunpowder, one Chinese hand grenade, 60 grams of suspected Sulphur powder, four mobile phones, one camouflage jacket, one camouflage cap, one wallet, four Aadhaar and ID cards, 102 gun cartridge case, 2.525 kg of explosive material (ammonium nitrate) and one bullet belt in the operation.
The seven arrested individuals along with the seized items have been handed over to Moreh police station for further legal actions.
According to news agencies, the arrested persons belong to the United Kuki Liberation Front.
With the deployment of additional forces from Imphal in Moreh, the operations have been continuing at sensitive areas of Moreh for the 4th day on Saturday.
Cordon and search operations were also conducted in areas covered by Toulal, Laikhot, Senjang, Moreh Muslim Basti and Nepali Basti villages.
On Friday, DIG Range-II Haobijam Jogeshchandra reached Moreh and held security meet with state police personnel deployed in the border town.
Consequently, the search operation was launched since early morning under his supervision.
Earlier, police had arrested 32 illegal immigrants of Myanmar origin during an early morning operation on October 31.On the other hand, Kuki CSOs called 48-hour shutdown demanding removal of Manipur Police commandos from Moreh while the 10 Kuki MLAs, are demanding separate administration for the Kuki-Zo tribes, also wrote to the Central government for withdrawal of state police from the border town.
