NPF refutes report on NPF-NSCN (IM) link over money demand

Naga People's Front (NPF), Ukhrul Division has refuted the report and allegation leveled against the party on its involvement with NSCN (IM) in connection with the monetary demand made by cadres to a relative of the Congress candidate from Chingai DDC in Ukhrul on May 18.A press statement of the Ukhrul Division NPF General Secretary Yangmi Ronra Shimray said that the party has taken serious note of the report and asked the local media and also the victim to verify the same.
Terming the allegation as "false and baseless", the NPF division said the report was aimed at tarnishing the image of NPF.
The statement asserted that NPF does not collect money from other political parties or even their workers.
While condemning the report, the NPF termed it as a "slandering political campaign" of the Congress which was losing its support base in the hills of Manipur.
It has been reported in some local dailies that one Daniel Lunglen (45), son of Marathou Lunglen, relative of the Congress candidate from Chingai DDC seat A Shimreingam was allegedly assaulted by three NSCN cadres who asked him to pay Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 on May 18 .
The victim is reportedly undergoing treatment at Advance Hospital, Palace Compound, Imphal.
